[...] The very first big thing I did that really pushed my comfort level on the abundance mentality was the blog carnival from last year. I loved it - it was a great question, the responses where incredible, and instead of making it a flash-in-the-pan thing I extended it over five days, really highlighting the participants, sharing link love, introducing one to another, etc. I know that many of my participants (and readers) learned of other bloggers during that time and many developed their own relationships. I was very pleased to have been a part of all that relationship building. Here is day 1, day 2, day 3, day 4 and day 5. If you do something like this, my only advice is to go over the top.
Isn't it always the case? There was a CareerBuilder article that I found last year. It sticks in the back of my mind because the 8 warning signs are so dead-on accurate. The "7 Signs" piece was a close second. But "Eight Signs Your Job is Doomed" ["http://www.careerbuilder.com/Custom/MSN/CareerAdvice/ViewArticle.aspx?articleid=541&pf=true
" for the printer friendly version] by Kate Lorenz is classic. In fact, I recently had a conversation with someone who had just quit their job. When they recited the reasons why, I thought they were reading from Kate's article. My jaw dropped.

[...] Today President Bush announced that Don Rumsfeld, the embroiled Secretary of Defense, will be stepping down as the head of the Pentagon and the war effort in Iraq. Perhaps Mr. Rumsfeld should mosey on over to JibberJobber and check out the blog carnival entries ‘cuz “Yikes! He just lost his job! He’s been so busy at *work* that his network is not as strong as he would like it to be!” You could also check out what I recommend in case you lose your job. [...]

[...] In the meantime I’ve been so busy at work I’ve put off a lot of things on my list. So my start is: I’m going to review an ebook every 2 days. I’m going to work on my affiliate site, write a letter I’ve needed to write, go to the gym every day, etc. etc. I’ll also read through Jason’s blog carnival responses.
[...] Last night I get a call from one of my carnival entrants. They had just gotten laid off. Irony of ironies, this person constructed a thoughtful response to my question starting YIKES (don’t worry, I won’t put the whole question here, its been in posts all week )… and they would do this and that and that and this. I imagine this person had a fitful night, and hope that they wake up and read through the other submissions that I’ve put in from Monday through Thursday. I don’t agree with all of it but I do agree with most of it (99%) - there are some amazing pearls of wisdom in there. [...]

Jason,

Loved your question! To add my 2cents....the very first thing I do when I meet a new client who's lost their job is this -- I help them deal with the ending. Once they are comfortable with the "ending" process, then we move on to the other very important matters, as well. By dealing with the "ending" first and celebrating the "ending", a good foundation exists for moving forward with a positive mental attitude, an optimistic outlook, and a happy heart!

Wait - you guys get stuff for blogging? When did this happen? Did I forget to give someone my phone number?

Thanks for the subscription, Jason! I'll probably think of some appropriate contest to give it away to some of my bloggers.
