We love our "Mag" and without it my husband would never have learned to navigate he burrows of Seattle when we moved here 3 years ago.

the downside is the price of the maps... $200 for the model we have... we are at the 'upgrade / buy' point... arrggh!

Some of the newer models have the live updates... but I love the ability to save points of interest back onto the computer... oh to be able to upload my POI just before taking off on a business trip and have my local points in use when at home!

Going with the flow of GPS systems it's important to note they are always evolving. Map databases take time to digitally be transferred available for uploads and downloads. All mapping is not the same Navteq and Teleatlas will not always yield the same results. There is an interesting blog http://blog.telemapics.com/ which you can a lot about these systems and also apply the information to problem solving.
And as with most things you have to update the GPS maps for a while it may be free then it comes with a price.
