@Perrine - we ARE all amazing, aren't we? ANd job seekers need to know that more than most because in a job search, we feel quite unamazing, especially as time goes on.

@Shahrzad - even though we know a lot of this I find people still have a hard time communicating... my wife recently heard my JibberJobber 30 second pitch (to family) and was quite unimpressed (with the pitch, not with JibberJobber :p)!

@Malcolm - totally, I'm a firm believer in breaking bread with people!

@Heather - thank you :) :)  Love your avatar :p

@Linda - sure thing, and thank you for asking for clarification on that other post! The hard part is realizing that sometimes WE need to be the ones to initiate the relatinship stuff, and not just accept the 30 second pitch at face value (which is what I did for too long with Bart).

Thanks, Jason, for sharing more on the story! One of the job groups I belong to stresses more on network-intros than anything else & so that was what I had signed up to do. But then after providing email-intros to other job group members (whom I had not known personally) several times, I notice I had never gotten neither a feedback nor a thank-you email, nothing. I had even blogged about it once, but again no feedback. I'm reluctant giving email-intros these days, unless I have gotten to know the person better.

Again, thanks, Jason!

Aside from stereotyping this post just demonstrates a life lesson. You absolutely never know how another individual might actually help you out in your life time until you sit down with them and break bread.

Dear Jason,

Thank you for this wonderful post! I appreciate your message of getting to know more about others who cross our path (and certainly those who may be in or around our network), and being mindful about the message we share with others about who we are and what we do. Having the right knowlege about one another can certainly make us more effective in providing (or seeking) help with career goals. Your example illustrates this very well. Thanks for reminding us all to consider how well we're communicating.

With my best,

Shahrzad Arasteh

Now isn't this ironic?

Dear Pisces,
Here is your horoscope for Tuesday, February 10:
You need to build up your one-on-one relationships -- or maybe just one in particular. You've got the right kind of mental and emotional energy to really reach out and make something good happen.

I just had to post again. Too funny!

Thanks Jason.

Good lesson to take time to really hear people and for people giving their elevator pitch to learn that they need to take time to network 'deeper' with key individuals who can help identify their hidden potential.

We are all amazing and have incredible talents. We just have to prove or talk about them to the right person at the right time! Finding the right person and right time takes practice.

Thank you Jason for reminding me that this fast paced world of high tech does (occasionally!) need to slow down to speed ahead. :-)
