Here was my official response from LinkedIn Customer Service to my inquiry on the 200 character limit:

“Thank you for contacting LinkedIn Customer Support.

We have recently made this change to invitations. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

If you have further questions, please feel free to reply to this message.

Thank you for being a valued member of our LinkedIn community!”

Umm … is it my imagination or does this say NOTHING?

So, Jason, what’s your take on the new LinkedIn limitation on custom invitations to 200 characters? It’s still not clear to me when this exactly applies, but it’s now something I’ve run up against for the last couple of weeks. It’s kind of hard to personalize an invitation with that kind of limitation.
