There are lots of books on Twitter right now – I was supposed to write one of the earliest but I was in the middle of rewriting I’m on LinkedIn — Now What??? and I wasn’t sure I wanted to write another technical book that would have to be updated every year!  I opted to not do that but instead create hands-on, visual webinar recording that shows you how to use Twitter.

Twitter for Job Seekers (the video) is specifically designed for professionals in a job search.

It is a 1 hour and 24 minues (and one second) video, walking you through what Twitter is, and how to use it in your job search.

It’s based on the idea that you want to find network contacts who can help you in your job search – find people to add to your own personal/professional network, as well as how to communicate with them after you find them.

There is also training on what to do with your own Twitter account. As a professional, what could or should you be tweeting?  (going into personal branding, and how to use Twitter as a Personal Branding tool)

I show you how to get value out of Twitter EVEN IF YOU DON’T HAVE A TWITTER ACCOUNT.  This is essential for many professionals who aren’t excited to jump on this bandwagon, but still want to tap into the power that Twitter.com has created.  There is significant power there – and you can tap into it without even signing up for an account.

I won’t try to convince anyone to get a Twitter account, but I do want you to learn how to use this tool so you can achieve your career management objectives.

To access the recording (as many times as you like) simply do the following:

1. Login to JibberJobber.com.  This is as security measure so this video isn’t shared out inappropriately.  If you don’t have a JibberJobber account, get one on the front page – it takes about 60 seconds.
2. Mouse over the Tools link (from the main menu) and go all the way down to Videos (click on the Videos link).
3. The last tab on Videos is “Premium Videos.” Twitter for Job Search is the last one there.

This $50 investment into your career management is worth it… once you are done you should have your brain wrapped around Twitter as a tool, and know how you are going to incorporate it into your job search strategy.

I got a few emails yesterday about Keith Ferrazzi’s post How to Surpass 95% of your Competition with One Simple Gesture.

Absolutely, totally, 100% agree with him.

The email I got, though, was “I can do this in JibberJobber!” or “How can I do this in JibberJobber?”

I can’t believe I missed THREE days of blogging!  This surgery-recovery thing is kicking my butt.  I was also pretty preoccupied with a new presentation I was putting together for masters level students at universities. I delivered it yesterday … I was nervous since I haven’t spoken for a while AND I knew I wanted to do a NEW presentation – it took a long time for me to figure out just what I wanted to do.  But I think I now have something I can use at other universities – especially as a presentation to kick off the school year.

One of my projects is to create new training on using tools I talk about for professionals.  In the title of this blog post I say “Twitter for JOB SEEKERS” – by now you should know that I think we are all job seekers.  My audience for this new webinar is professionals (including executives) in transition, or professionals who want to do Career Management better.

That would be YOU.

This webinar was one hour and twenty three minutes!  I couldn’t believe I got that much content in something so seemingly simple – but I talk about:

• how Twitter fits into an overall social strategy
• basics of Twitter, including RT, @, hashtags, etc.
• How to use Twitter as a personal branding tool
• How to use Twitter as a networking tool
• Tools that tap into Twitter that are powerful – including one MUST USE site, whether you use Twitter or not
• and some other miscellaneous alba-isms (come on, you gotta love the alba-isms :p)

The good news is I’m done with the recording.  The bad news is it is not ready for you to view yet – it should be available shortly… we’re working on a system that will allow you to watch this recording as a streaming video – I hope that it is up and ready next week.  Watch the blog for when it’s ready.

I did get one negative comment, about how we were just focusing on the negative.  I understand the email I got, but hope that after you watch this you can see the opportunities you can focus on.

I have very few big goals. One of them is to make JibberJobber as easy to use and functional for you. Its all about you. Career management is a pain (although networking is pretty fun, once you get the hang of it!) without having to learn use clunky software. And JibberJobber strives to not be clunky software! Here are two awesome new things that you want to know about:

The first goodie is one of the most requested features of the year – the ability to create a log entry right after you save a new network contact (or target company, or job posting). Well, now you can! Right below the save button there is a checkbox that says Save and Add Log Entry … when you check this box and hit save, it will open the new record and allow you to create a log entry.

Useful? Big time. Let me differentiate “notes” from a log entry… when I create a new contact I’ll make a note like this:

Jan is certified in x, y and z. I found out about her business from the First Friday event that I went to and we chatted for about an hour after the meeting. She thinks there are some great synergies between me and about 4 companies she is working it.

That is general information that is “timeless” (that is – information that I want to see each time I open her detail page). Now, I also need to call her and schedule a lunch, which I’ll do in a log entry:

Call Jan on Tuesday and see if we can meet Wednesday or Friday for lunch.

This is a specific, dated thing, and I need to create an action item with it … so instead of putting it in the notes I’ll use the log entry.

The second goodie is so cool I had to make a video! I heard about it at lunch from a guy that has been using JibberJobber for about a week but he has quickly turned into a power user. He said “I LOVE Anagram! I go into Outlook and drag my contacts into the Anagram box!”

I didn’t know that was possible. I came right home and tried it out and it worked (in Internet Exporer and Firefox!)… it was one of the coolest things I’ve seen on a website – and I’ve been doing this type of stuff for 10 years! Thanks Mike for the tip, and here is the 54 second video:

Well, they are highly recommended by me Actually, I recorded these last night after playing around with my audio for about 3 hours… and then suddenly, and finally, it worked! So I recorded these as fast as I could before my audio crashed again

As usual, this is unplugged, unscripted, but helpful all the same!

Expense Tracker (1 minute, 45 seconds) – This is a cute premium feature that was requested by a small outplacement firm that I met about 6 months ago. It is a very simple way to track expenses and mileage, and you can categorize each “expense” as you wish. Everyone that is (or was) a premium user and adds data into this will get an e-mail at the end of every January with an itemized list that you can take to your accountant and perhaps get a write-off. I think that in various cases (job search, own your own business) the expense of JibberJobber is a tax write-off!

How to Add a Job Feed (1 minute, 31 seconds) – I admit that I don’t like “feeds”… but check out this short video to see how cool it is, and how to get value out of a job feed. Trust me, if you don’t know what it means then you need to spend a couple of minutes watching this – if you do know what feeds are then check it out anyway because this a very cool use of feeds (and fits perfectly into SimplyHired.com’s feed model).

Job Feeds Creating a New Job Record (1 minute, 37 seconds) – Kind of Part II to the job feed video, which shows you how to quickly click on a job feed and add that as a job record. Very cool.

Action Items Explained (2 minute, 33 seconds) – Action Items are pretty simple but I figured this video would help solidify what they are, and how to get the best out of them.

Tags Explained (1 minute, 22 seconds) – You NEED TO use tags… if you don’t, then watch this quick video and see how easy it is to use them. It is super valuable.

Tags to E-mails? (2 minute, 03 seconds) – This is unbelievable, and I’ve been wanting this for months! No matter who you are (active job seeker, small business owner, whatever) this makes JibberJobber worth it. Note that it is a part of the premium features, maybe this is the thing that makes it worth the upgrade!

I’m having too much fun with this video software… and it is as unscripted and unplugged as it gets! Here are the next two that you might want to check out:

Get Contact List – I figure you shouldn’t be at your computer all day long – even social networkers need to get away and meet people face-to-face! So here is a way that you can print out the people that you have as contacts – whether they are company and/or network, by tag, category, etc. This is how you export to a csv or vcard file to allow you to send to other programs (like Outlook, LinkedIn, Plaxo, etc.)… it kind of looks scary but hopefully this tuturial will help you see how easy it really is. Note this is one of the premium features, definitely worth the upgrade, don’t you think?

The List Panel defined – I refer to a thing called the List Panel, which is like a spreadsheet interface + web interface. This short video shows what the List Panel is (there is a List Panel in various places…) and what the different things mean. This is a “must see” video to help you get the best out of the JibberJobber interface, at least with regard to this feature.

So I got some cool software to record “how to” training videos for JibberJobber – finally! Actually I’ve been playing around with different software and I think I found my favorite. So I tested it on a couple of different things (see below), I’d LOVE to know what you think, and what requests you have for training.

How to track a job posting and edit its status – (2 minutes 49 seconds) I have gotten multiple requests on how to do this just this week! So here you go.

How to use the Maps – (2 minutes 29seconds) fun, cool, google. What can I say. (I had to record this 4 different times! Argh!)
