Job Boards
April 29th, 2011This area is to help you get more value out of Job Boards.
There are tons of job boards you can use, but I see them used the wrong way ALL THE TIME.
I hate going to job clubs and workshops where they talk about all the real ways to find a job, and then end with “and here are new job postings we found online! Go do this instead!”
It’s easy to spend time on job boards, and you feel productive at the end of the day because you can say “I applied to x number of jobs today,” or “I found y new postings today!”
We are used to shooting for numbers, and work towards metrics, and job boards help make us feel better.
But if you neglect networking, and branding, and good communication (including pitches, taglines, interview responses, resumes, etc.) you are only one of two billion others who have applied to the same job online.
Want to get excited? Do a search on a job board.
Want to waste time? Blindly blast your resume out to every job posting that looks half interesting.
